Thank you so much for this ornament pattern. Is it of your own design? I also design patterns and I'm hoping to post a monthly design on my blog in the coming year. If you hadn't posted a link to this ornie pattern, in a yahoo group, I would have never discovered your blog which I now have bookmarked to check often. I teach redwork embroidery and crazyquilting here in No.California and we have had a local stitcher's group since 1992. We meet monthly in each others homes. The members all love Redwork embroidery and needlework of all sorts. I've been thinking of sharing some of my vintage patterns with them in 2009 as a sort of challenge. We have had crazyquilting round robins before, but never anything involving redwork. Again, thank you so much for the ornament pattern
LouAnne, thanks for your kind comments. I also teach redwork and Crazy Quilting. I have quite a collection of quilt related ephemera from the 1800s onwards. I am planning a crazy quilt workshop for the spring, where I will bring out all my old patterns and quilts for the students to view. I especially love the old stitch booklets and stories relating to the crazy quilt fad. I just got the 1890 Good Houskeeping magazine at the library - ILL on microfilm, I hope to go check it out on Monday - it contains a poem written to the tune of the Star Spangled Banner, about crazy quilts. Many of the old catalogs for redwork patterns, have images that show up in crazy quilts - most noteably the Kate Greenaway children. Best regards, Louise
